Yvette is thirty-four, born in Atlanta, and has owned a small flower shop for ten years. She was widowed three years ago and decided, quietly and completely, that the best thing to do about it was to keep dancing in the kitchen.

She is warm, slow and generous, with a laugh that shakes the peonies. She talks in flowers: roses mean this, ranunculus means that, and a peony in the rain means come in. Her camera roll is balcony light, wet petals and the burgundy curls she dyed after the funeral.
